W Chapel Heath
W Chapel Heath, born Apr 1855, GA, married Annie Rebecca LNU, born Apr 1858, GA.
He and his wife were not found in the 1910 census of St. Johns County that covered this area nor in the 1920 census of Flagler County. They were residing in Bunnell at the time the city charter for Bunnell was granted for W.C. Heath was appointed the first Mayor of Bunnell.
They arrived in Bunnell, FL on 15 Dec 1910. He helped moved the old wooden store, called the Commissary from where the Bank Building now stands (SE corner of Moody Blvd. and Railroad St - the Bunnell Development Company was upstairs). He said that in 1910 there was nothing here but an old dilapidated sawmill and a turpentine still. There was but one public road in this end of the country.....the Old Kings Road which is said to be the oldest in the United States was here, and has been for four hundred years.
In the list of Registered Voters for the Town of Bunnell dated 01 Dec 1915, he is listed with occupation as "Bookkeeper" and his age 60. Several accounts from the Bunnell Home Builder mention his activities as Mayor of Bunnell, also his work as Worshipful Master of Bunnell Lodge No 200 F & A M, and his being reelected Mayor of Bunnell in Sept 1917. Rebecca Heath and W. Chapel Heath were charter members of Bunnell Chapter No 93 Order of the Eastern Star.
Also, given in the Bunnell Home Builder was an account of Mrs. Heath teaching the Young Ladies Class at the Methodist Sunday School in Bunnell. They probably moved to Bunnell just after the census of 1910, as he refers to his having been a resident for three years in an article dated early in 1913. It is said he was employed as a bookkeeper for Bunnell Development Company.
At the creation of Flagler County he was appointed Justice of the Peace for District #2.
On 1 Jan 1921, he and his wife moved into the Masonic Home for the Aged in Arlington, Tarrant CO, TX.
